The four zones

Camera

Media, film and creative shows. Great for younger kids who want softer entertainment.

Culture

Balinese arts and cultural performances. A nice pause between the bigger rides.

Action

Boomerang Coaster, Bat Glider, Formula Kart go-karts. The big kid and grown-up turf.

Adventure

Opening hours
Weekdays: 11am to 6pm. Weekends and public holidays: 11am to 7pm.
Getting there
Trans Studio Mall, West Denpasar. Around 15 minutes by GrabCar XL from Kuta, or a private driver booked through the resort concierge.
Best day strategy
Weekends stay open until 7pm, which gives an extra hour and the evening parade. Weekday mornings have shorter queues if you arrive right at 11am.
Height minimums
Some thrill rides (coaster, I-Fly, go-karts) require around 120cm. Emily at 4 will clear around 10 to 14 of the 19 attractions. Pair up: one adult takes the big stuff with Oliver and William while the other takes Emily through the gentler zones.
What to bring
It is extremely air-conditioned inside. Pack a light layer, a hoodie or long-sleeve, for the kids. Comfortable closed shoes for the coaster and karts.
Wet weather
This is the perfect wet-weather backup day. If the sky opens up, pile in here and let the VIP Fast Track do its thing.

Underrated option

Mall food halls

Beachwalk and Discovery Mall both have solid food hall floors with air-conditioning, multiple options, and the ability to split up so one adult gets ramen while the other takes the kids to get a burger. An especially good family dinner move in the peak-heat early evening.

A long-tailed macaque perched in lush Bali foliage

Ubud Sacred Monkey Forest

1 hr drive, Ubud

Ancient temple forest with hundreds of long-tailed macaques roaming freely. Beautiful, atmospheric, and surprisingly close to the jungle canopy.

Genuine caution: monkeys will snatch food, bags, sunglasses and hair ties. No food in pockets. Hold little hands at all times. Best for confident older kids; stressful for those under about five.

Cascading green terraced rice paddies in Ubud

Tegalalang Rice Terraces

1.5 to 2 hr drive, Ubud

Iconic tiered green rice terraces. Genuinely stunning scenery and a world away from Kuta. The swing photos are everywhere for a reason.

Note: paths are steep and uneven in places. Pair with an Ubud lunch stop. Don't do this on the same day as Bali Treetop.

A Balinese sea temple on the clifftops at golden hour

Uluwatu Temple and Kecak Dance

45 min drive, Bukit Peninsula

Clifftop sea temple at sunset, followed by the Kecak fire dance performance. One of the most spectacular things to do in Bali. Worth it for adults who want a cultural high point.

Late finish past bedtime for little ones. Cliff edge needs constant supervision. Monkeys here are also snatch-happy. Best as an adult evening if a babysitter can be arranged.

Surfers on the long golden sweep of Kuta Beach

Kuta / Seminyak Surf Lesson

On the doorstep, Kuta Beach

Schools along Kuta Beach offer morning lessons for beginners. Generally suitable from about age 6, so Oliver and William are candidates. Foam boards, supervised, and most kids get up within an hour.

Always use a reputable school. Kuta has strong rips near the northern end. Do not let kids swim unattended. Not suitable for Emily yet.

GWK Cultural Park

Home to the enormous Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue, one of the tallest in the world. Cultural performances, wide paths, genuinely jaw-dropping scale. Good for curious older kids.

Very exposed and hot during midday hours. Arrive early (opens 8am) or late afternoon. Pairs well with Uluwatu on a Bukit day if timings work.

Kids Cooking Class

Various locations, 30 to 60 min drive

Several Ubud and Seminyak schools run cooking classes from about age 3 or 4. Often pizza or satay, so there's no weird ingredient crisis. Kids get chef aprons, make the food, and eat it. A lovely mid-week activity on a rest day.

Book via the resort concierge or a well-reviewed operator. Ubud-based ones often include a market visit, which adds travel time.

Tall coconut palms rising against a bright tropical sky

Bali Safari and Marine Park

1 hr drive, Gianyar

Drive-through safari tram past real lions, rhinos, and elephants. Splash park on site. Genuinely impressive and the kids will talk about the safari tram for weeks.

Full-day commitment. Plan for 1 hour travel each way. Pre-book a private driver. Can be very hot outside the tram. Go early (opens around 9am) before peak heat hits.

The travel reality check

Bali traffic turns a 45-minute drive into 90 minutes.

Budget the full 3 hours of travel for any trip that Google Maps says is 45 minutes away, and plan for that to eat a chunk of energy from the kids. Cap big drive-days to every second day and mix them with pure pool days in between.

When you do head out, cluster by geography. A Bukit day covers GWK in the morning and Uluwatu at sunset. A Gianyar day picks ONE of Bali Safari, the Zoo, or the Bird Park. Ubud has Monkey Forest, Tegalalang, and cooking classes within its own orbit.

Build in two or three days with no plan at all. The pool, a slow breakfast, a walk to Waterbom, back for lunch, afternoon nap, dinner nearby. Those are often the days everyone remembers most fondly.

October 2026

What's on

The honest version. October is a great time to be there, with a few things worth knowing about.

Good news

Weather

October is the tail end of the dry season. Day highs around 31C, warm and humid with mostly sunny mornings. You will likely get a short afternoon downpour every few days, which cools everything down nicely. The sea is around 27 to 28C, perfect for swimming.

Watch out

UV Index

11+

Extreme. Peaks noon to 1pm. 10 minutes unprotected at midday will burn pale skin.

Plan outdoor and beach time before 10am and after 3 to 4pm. Everyone needs SPF 50+, reapplied every 90 minutes. The UV does not care about clouds.

Quiet

Public Holidays

There are no Indonesian public holidays in October 2026. That means Trans Studio Bali runs on normal weekend hours, not extra-busy public holiday mode, and you avoid the domestic crowd surges that come with national holidays. A genuine plus.

Calendar notes

Sat 10 Oct

Tumpek Wayang, a Balinese day honouring shadow-puppet arts and performing traditions. You may see small ceremonies and offerings. No crowds or disruptions for tourists.

Daily

Temple offerings (canang sari) placed twice daily throughout Bali. You will see them everywhere on footpaths and outside shops. Step around, not through them. A beautiful and constant reminder of local culture.

8 to 11 Oct

Overlaps with WA, SA, ACT and Tas school holidays. More Australian families around, prices at their peak for the trip. Eases off from around 12 October as those states return to school.

Note

Galungan and Kuningan (the main Balinese festival with penjor bamboo poles lining every road) fall in June 2026, not October. You will not see the full penjor display. You will still find Bali absolutely beautiful.

21 to 25 Oct

Ubud Writers and Readers Festival, just after you leave. Not relevant for the trip but worth knowing it is close.

Check closer

Kuta Karnival, Nusa Dua Festival and Bali Kite Festival have no confirmed 2026 dates as of now. Worth checking official channels 4 to 6 weeks out to see if anything lines up.

A colourful Balinese canang sari offering on stone steps, with incense smoke rising

Daily life in Bali

Canang sari offerings are placed twice a day across the whole island.

Getting around

Moving the crew

The good news: getting around Bali with kids is easy and very cheap. The one non-negotiable is car seat planning for the young ones.

Best for short hops

Grab and Gojek

Southeast Asia's Uber equivalents. A hop across Kuta typically costs a couple of dollars. GrabCar XL fits all five of you plus a pram. The app shows the fare upfront, no negotiating. Note: not available from airport arrivals, so pre-book the hotel transfer for the late landing.

Metered taxis

Bluebird Taxis

Bali's most trusted taxi company. Always use the blue Bluebird cabs or the MyBlueBird app, not random street taxis which often run unmetered fares. A good alternative if Grab is surging or unavailable.

Best for day trips

Private Driver

For any full-day excursion, a private driver for the day runs roughly AUD 50 to 85 depending on the destination. They wait while you explore, know the best routes, and handle parking. The resort concierge can arrange a trusted driver. Much more relaxed than multiple Grabs for a day out with three kids.

Important for young kids

Car seats

Rideshare apps and regular taxis in Bali do not provide car seats. For Emily at 4, and for any longer day trips with younger kids, hire a private driver for the day and bring your own travel car seat from Australia. The resort concierge can help arrange a driver. Do not rely on Grab or Bluebird for the little ones without a car seat in the car.
